How can we train today’s students to take on jobs that do not yet exist? How can we prepare today’s students to tackle societal challenges that we can’t yet imagine?

The world is evolving faster than our educational models can keep up. In the 21st century, the focus has shifted from what students know to how they can best learn and use that knowledge.

This is why we need 21st century competencies such as critical thinking, collaboration, communication, problem solving, creativity and resilience among others.

At Beyond Education, we foster these competencies in secondary school students.

Beyond Education

What We Offer

Beyond Education provides courses that develop 21st century competencies in three age groups: 13-15, and 16-18. Courses include leadership, entrepreneurship, global citizenship, digital literacy, and teamwork.

Beyond Education’s programs are offering a fully online experience based on the principles of child psychology, learning sciences, and the most innovative educational models. Unlike formal education, BE courses are completely learner-centric and are adapted to students’ ages, abilities, and interests.

Who We Are

Beyond Education is an ambitious educational startup that develops and provides online courses spanning 21st-century competencies for students aged 10 to 18.

The BE team consists of educators, researchers and designers of innovative learning experiences. 

Bernardo Teixeira Motta

CEO

Bernardo Teixeira Motta is co-founder, board member and CEO at Beyond Education. He has extensive experience in establishing companies from start to finish. He is passionate about education and preparing the next generations for new professional and personal challenges. He holds an MBA from Madrid-based IE Business School.

Michaela Horvathova

Chief Education Officer

Michaela Horvathova is co-founder, board member and Chief Education Officer at Beyond Education. She is an international education expert with extensive global experience in curriculum design, 21st century competencies and innovative learning practices. She holds a Master’s Degree in International Education Policy from Harvard University.

Pedro Queiró

CTO/CPO

Pedro Queiró is the Chief Product and Chief Technical Officer at Beyond Education. He is an experienced educational technology entrepreneur with deep global experience at DreamShaper, where he is co-founder and Head of Product. He holds a Master's Degree in Physical Engineering from the University of Lisbon.

Dr. Macarena-Paz Celume

Director of Research and Evaluation

Dr. Macarena-Paz Celume is co-founder and Director of Research and Evaluation at Beyond Education. She specialises in active pedagogies, and the development and evaluation of socio-cognitive and socio-emotional competencies. She holds a Master's degree in Innovative Approaches to Education and Research and a Doctorate Degree in Psychology from Université de Paris.

Katarina Kordulakova

Director of Pedagogy

Katarina Kordulakova is co-founder and Director of Pedagogy at Beyond Education. She develops social-emotional learning experiences, and specialises in teacher training and project management. She holds Master’s Degrees in Public Policy Evaluation from École Polytechnique, and in Communication from Sciences Po Paris.

Dr. Haifat Maoulida

Reasercher

Dr. Maoulida specializes in Social, Work and Educational Psychology and Psychometrics. From her research, she wishes to shed new light on current societal issues and contribute to their application in the field, what she has already put into practice through program development aimed at improving school climate. She holds a master’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and a Doctorate Degree in Psychology from Université de Paris 8.

Manabu Ishihara

Curriculum Designer

Manabu Ishihara is a Master student at Université de Paris and an internship staff at Beyond Education. His interests are instructional design and assessment toward motivating online learning. He studied design thinking and exercised the skill for enhancing active participation of students in a learning environment based on distance communication.
In his working experience, he was in charge of project management in an open education division at the University of Tokyo and produced an online course by collaborating with various stakeholders. He holds a Master's degree in Media Design from Keio University.

Katie Brown

Curriculum Designer

Katie has several years of experience in curriculum design, facilitation, training for education professionals, and international educational project management. For the last few years, as Head of Pedagogy in a French non-profit, she has worked along disadvantaged youth as well as social workers, creating innovative and empowering pedagogical tools to develop 21st century skills. She holds Master’s Degrees in International Education Management from the Middlebury institute of international Studies and in Education from Paris Descartes University.

Luis Felipe Martinez

Curriculum Designer

Felipe has several years of experience in teaching, research and quantitative methods
constant interest to learn more. His interests lie in teaching, education research, and the development of 21st century skills. He holds a degree International Education Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with focus on teacher policy, quantitative methods, and action research.

Manisha Madhukar

Curriculum Designer

Currently pursuing a master's degree in Education and Research at CRI. Manisha worked as an assistant Educator in Berlin, Teacher at Teach For India and Curriculum developer at Camp Diaries, India. She Obtained a bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics and Mathematics at Christ University, India.
